His father had a cruel game. He'd throw young Kirill onto the horizontal bar. Kirill had to catch it mid-air.

If he caught it, fine. If he fell, his father would mock and ridicule him mercilessly.

His father also taunted him whenever he showed fear. About anything. Including airplanes.

Fast forward to adulthood. Kirill has severe fear of flying.

But it's not about the plane. It's about what the plane represents:

    • Loss of control (like being thrown in the air)
    • Vulnerability (like hanging from a bar)
    • Potential for humiliation if he shows fear
    • Trusting someone else (the pilot) not to let him fall

His father taught him: "The world is unsafe. People who are supposed to protect you will hurt you. Showing fear makes you weak. You're on your own."

The airplane activates all of these encoded lessons at once.

Therapy didn't teach him that flying is safe. It taught him that his father was wrong. That fear isn't weakness. That trust is possible.

The plane stayed the same. He changed.
